This 8-module course provides a well-rounded foundation in the essential areas of DSP work, including:
- Person-Centered Support & Empowerment
Learn how to support individuals in living self-directed lives by honoring their goals, preferences, and dignity—including the important concept of “dignity of risk.” - Understanding Developmental Disabilities
Gain a strong understanding of developmental and intellectual disabilities, including causes, characteristics, and how to challenge common misconceptions. - Communication, Advocacy & Professionalism
Build skills in effective communication, ethical decision-making, and advocating for the rights, independence, and well-being of those you support. - Health, Safety & Daily Care
Develop critical skills in recognizing and responding to health risks, preventing choking and falls, supporting nutrition, and ensuring safe environments. - Community Integration & Meaningful Living

Registration & Enrollment
The DSP training course enrolls twice per month in 12-week cohorts. The dates below are the current available cohorts to choose from:
- May 28, 2026 – August 28, 2026
- June 8, 2026 – September 8, 2026
- June 22, 2026 – September 22, 2026

Step 2: Submit your payment:
Step 3: Receive the payment confirmation email, which will include the registration form. Here, you can select the cohort dates you want to enroll in.
Step 4: Check your email! Once the registration form is submitted, you will be contacted by a VHWDA team member who will confirm your enrollment and provide information about orientation.
