Joseph Wilkins is currently the president of St. Francis Medical Center in Richmond, VA. He is originally from Halifax County, Virginia and attended The College of William and Mary receiving his Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology prior to attending Virginia Commonwealth University where he attained his Master’s and Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He began his health care career as a physical therapist at Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Hospital in Mechanicsville, VA with the goal of “helping people walk again”. He attained this goal while working with patients who had suffered spinal cord injuries and CVAs at Sheltering Arms Hospital in Richmond, VA and the Department of Veterans Affairs. After which, he set a new goal of “helping more people”. Seeing Health Administration as an appropriate route to achieve this objective he returned to Virginia Commonwealth University and attained his Master’s in Health Care Administration degree and embarked on his journey into hospital management. As part of this journey, Joe has served as Director of Rehabilitation for Henrico Doctors Hospital (Richmond, VA), Assistant CEO for Southside Regional Medical Center (Petersburg, VA), VP/COO of Raleigh General Hospital (Beckley, WV), and CEO of Wythe County Community Hospital (Wytheville, VA).
Joe has been married to his lovely wife Tonya for 21 years and they have 3 beautiful children.
