Yvette Dorsey, DNP, MSN, RN
DIRECTOR, VIRGINIA NURSING WORKFORCE CENTER
Dr. Yvette Dorsey brings more than two decades of experience in acute care, nursing education, and workforce strategy to her role as Director of the Virginia Nursing Workforce Center. A visionary leader and passionate advocate for equity, mentorship, and innovation, Dr. Dorsey now leads statewide efforts to strengthen Virginia’s nursing pipeline and shape the future of healthcare delivery.
Her career began over 28 years ago as a Licensed Practical Nurse and has spanned some of nursing’s most demanding specialties, including labor and delivery and adult critical care. She has held leadership roles in nursing academia and most recently served as Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs for HCA Healthcare’s Capital Division, where she oversaw academic partnerships and workforce development across Virginia, New Hampshire, and Indiana. HCA Healthcare; recognized as one of the two largest employers of nurses in the United States which provided a powerful platform for Dr. Dorsey to mentor aspiring nurses and lead strategic initiatives across multiple states.
At VHWDA, Dr. Dorsey directs the Virginia Nursing Workforce Center’s mission to ensure a qualified, diverse, and sustainable nursing workforce for the Commonwealth. Her work focuses on expanding educational capacity, improving access to clinical training, promoting career mobility, and building collaborative partnerships across healthcare, education, and government sectors.
Dr. Dorsey holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from American Sentinel University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Healthcare Systems Leadership from Chamberlain University. She previously served on the Virginia Board of Nursing through a gubernatorial appointment from 2019 to 2024, and in 2024 was nominated to represent health professional education and training programs on the Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority Board where she served until September 2025.
Her leadership is grounded in purpose, driven by data, and inspired by the belief that every Virginian deserves access to a strong, compassionate nursing workforce. Dr. Dorsey is proud to serve the Commonwealth and looks forward to advancing bold solutions that support nurses, students, and the communities they serve.
