Overview

The Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority (VHWDA) is pleased to announce the second year of its Health Policy Fellows, a two-week immersive experience designed to prepare the next generation of leaders in healthcare policy, public health, and workforce development.

Held in Richmond, Virginia, the Health Policy Fellowship provides undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of academic backgrounds with hands-on experience at the intersection of healthcare delivery and policy. Fellows will work closely with state and local leaders, participate in engaging sessions with experts, and contribute to real-world policy solutions aimed at improving health outcomes in the Commonwealth.

Participants will attend guest lectures, panels, and workshops; explore Richmond through educational tours and social mixers; and collaborate on a policy capstone project focused on high-need workforce areas such as oral health, rural health, behavioral health, and maternal health.

Program Features

This program is an excellent opportunity for students interested in health sciences, public health, political science, healthcare administration, data analysis, and related fields.

Policy Capstone Project

Fellows will work in small teams to develop a policy proposal on a critical issue in Virginia’s healthcare workforce. Guided by mentors, they’ll conduct research, analyze data, and explore solutions. The program culminates in a final presentation to the VHWDA team and invited guests from healthcare, government, and academia.

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Demonstrate interest in healthcare, public policy, or workforce development
  • Have strong research and analytical skills
  • Be detail-oriented and organized
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint)

Fields of study may include (but are not limited to): Health Sciences, Public Health, Political Science, Business, Healthcare Administration, and Data Analysis.
