Amy Paul, MD, MSHA
DIRECTOR OF STATEWIDE GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION
Dr. Amy S. M. Paul is a physician executive and specialist in Geriatric Medicine whose career embodies a commitment to advancing health equity, innovation, and leadership in dementia care. She began her work at Virginia Commonwealth University, serving on the Geriatrics House Calls team, where she cared for some of Richmond’s most underserved older adults. In this role, she contributed to nationally recognized initiatives, including the Duals Demonstration and Independence at Home Program, and served as a disability examiner for veterans in the region.
Dr. Paul brings a global perspective to medicine, having completed her medical education at Saint George’s University in Grenada and clinical training across the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center/Weill Cornell Program in New York and her Geriatrics Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida. In 2022, she earned her Master of Science in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, strengthening her ability to lead at the intersection of clinical medicine and health system transformation.
She holds leadership and advisory roles across health and nonprofit organizations, including serving as a Board Member and Community Educator with the Alzheimer’s Association, a Board member of the Virginia Memory Project and member of the Virginia Dementia Roundtable. She is also an Advisor to HelpAge Saint Lucia. Dr Paul is also a former Board member of Hands Across the Sea, a nonprofit advancing childhood literacy in the Caribbean. Through her involvement with StartUp Virginia, Dr. Paul advances entrepreneurship and innovation in healthcare delivery and caregiver support.
Her professional mission centers on the health and wellness of family caregivers and the reimagining of dementia care through person-centered, evidence-based, and compassionate approaches. Dr. Paul is committed to uniting clinical excellence with executive leadership to create a future where aging and caregiving are met with equity, dignity, and innovation both in Virginia and her home country, Saint Lucia.
